OMG! It's DECEMBER!

When it comes to choosing a favourite medium to work with, you can't go passed denim! I wanted to challenge myself with something special in menswear...Here we have a patchwork vest made entirely from upcycled denim. The waistband came from an old pair of jeans, the front patch pockets from another. Approximately 6 jeans were deconstructed and matched/contrasted for the overall effect. Cool and suave in white cotton drill suit and tie-dyed cotton T shirt. The suit was originally a Navy officer's dress uniform. The jacket was re-cut and given a modern "Spanish" look with short back waist, tapering down at the front. The buttons are vintage Merchant Navy in immaculate condition whilst the epaulets are merely for a bit of fun. The trousers have been tapered to the ankle but retain the casual cut for maximum comfort on hot summer days. A simple white t shirt was tie-dyed in denim blue to complete the casual yet suave look. Life is busy!

As we all know life is busy, complicated and sometimes overwhelming. So it has been here. A protracted illness, moving mother into a nursing home and the difficulties associated with that, has meant little time to muse on writing another blog post.

So my friends, back to work at Hanny-d! Winter is here well and truly so I guess many of you are hibernating. Why not take a little time out to explore the sites - in particular, one shop upstairs in Kingston's Cusack Centre...namely the CARDIFF Collective. It is worth looking at, with several local and regional designers banding together to showcase their work in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

Hanny-d has the new winter collection featuring wool coats, skirts, trousers and a gorgeous red-lined charcoal cape. There are also tops, scarves, handbags and more leather vests.

I'm getting together a collection of images which I will post soon.

Happy exploring....or hibernating if that's what you prefer!

360 FM Taking Flight - The Runway Fashion Parade

Sinead opened the Hanny-d Creations collection in glorious colour....fine cotton beach coat which as made from a sarong over bikini made from stash fabrics

Who says you can't wear double denim? Alvon wears a denim jacket vest made entirely from upcycled deconstructed denim with salvaged patched skinny jeans
Claire Emily rocks it in this fabulous chevron ensemble in shades of orange and red cotton!

D'Kodia looks oh so sweet in this upcycled mini dress which was originally my own Confirmation dress way back in the 70s. I gave it a few little modern touches changing the sleeves, lengthening (yes, lengthening!!) the hem and adding a little raw edge lace.

Ashleigh looks stunning in this cropped top with contrasts and the hot pink capris!

Looking relaxed and very suave, Chris is wearing a short white jacket and matching trouser, both made from an upcycled Naval uniform, complete with original brass buttons and faux epaulettes. The t-shirt was hand-dyed

Emily looks great in crisp black linen with stunning contrasts - our classic shifts never go out of style.

Hanna Marie looks amazing in this gorgeous 1960s lace dress, painstakingly restored by hand to its original condition. The little half veil in pale silvery grey has a little spray of silk flowers to compliment the posy

Cheeky Karly - aka Miss Cherrybomb - is wearing the cutest little sheer top and side button shorts, both made from upcycled fabric

Nara's jacket was commission by the Creative Director of the 360 Fashion Market who just had to have it included in the lineup. Nara's trousers were made from upcycled cotton which had been hand-dyed

Mays loved her outfit so much she wore it out that night. The boob tube is rouched all the way round and is finished off with a sheer flounce hem. The pants have an under short covered by sheer legs with side splits from the thigh down.

Black and white combinations in both top and capri are perfect for Sarah! The chinched waist top and wavey black contrasts on the capri suit her curves so well!

A crowd favourite, this shift suits Michelle's figure perfectly

And finally.....Chris escorts me down the catwalk in the finale

RAW Canberra Presents "MERGE" Hanny-d's "Denim & Lace"

This complete collection was created using ONLY upcycled media including fabrics, leather, lace, buttons and zippers. Hours of painstaking deconstruction preceded the construction of patterns.

Five pairs of jeans were used to create the sleeveless denim jacket/vest worn by Alvon Junior. The little cropped denim top came from 2 skirts while the leather skirt was refashioned from a long vintage one. Even the leather collar is upcycled from an old coat.

D'Kodia Laine looks ever so cute blowing kisses to the audience. Here she is wearing a lace boob tube and cropped denim vest - made from my own jeans! - with black sheer pants that have cute little under-shorts. The picture doesn't show the open sides which allow plenty of swishing movement. The bow tie has a leather band and cotton fabric which was left over from one of the men's shirts.

This beautiful peachy-pink lace dress is vintage (circa 1965). It was badly damaged especially in the lining. It has been delicately restored- mostly by hand - to almost new condition. This is what I call "true recycling"
Harley is wearing a sleeveless jacket/vest that was created from 100% upcycled denim. The 100% cotton lining is also upcycled. Even the copper/brass buttons came from a ten year old stash of haberdashery!
Jelena looks almost serene in her fully lined stretch lace dress with jersey lining. The little jacket has a large lined hood.
Cheeky girl Lucy! (L) This gorgeous lace boob tube has a lovely decorative hem and seen here with the cutest little skort ever! The over-skirt and shorts are actually separates so can be worn with different things or together as shown. Both came from the same pair of flared jeans and the pockets on front and back of the skirt from various other jeans.

(L - R) Paul Baynham, Michelle Welch, Alvon Junior and Harley Smith-Shields
Paul asks the question "What did I do?".... Michelle clearly isn't taking him seriously!
(L - R) Jelena Jelinek, D'Kodia Laine, Jane Back and Lucy Cameron
Paul is wearing a cotton and ramie sleeveless shirt with multi-coloured contrast centre over a plain white tee
Who's too sexy? Jane and Alvon both look like they know.....

and here's the line-up with me in the middle....my jeans were made from 5 different pairs of jeans and the top from 2 dresses.
